About

Veenentaal advises on applications on the intersection of language and computers, and how those applications can improve your organisation’s opportunities. Examples are the application of spelling, grammar and readability checkers, smart search, machine translation, dialogue systems or speech recognition to improve your business processes, knowledge management or communication.

Are you looking for language applications or an organisation to develop them for you? Would you like to know the state of the art in language application research? Do you have an idea for a language application and are you looking for a sparring partner to further develop the idea? Veenentaal can help by giving advice on available products, ongoing (research) projects and relevant partners. This will speed up your search or project, allowing you to focus on your core business.

Veenentaal is an initiative of Remco van Veenendaal. Remco van Veenendaal 2016As software engineer, computational linguist, senior technologist/lecturer, project manager and member of the board, he has acquired more than fifteen years’ experience on the intersection of language and computers. He viewed this intersection from the four perspectives business, education, research and government:

At the latter two organisations, he was project manager of the Flemish-Dutch Human Language Technology Agency (HLT Agency or TST-Centrale), a repository for digital Dutch language resources.

From March 2015 onward, Remco van Veenendaal is a Preservation Advisor for the Dutch National Archives (Nationaal Archief) in The Hague – from the digital national language to the digital national memory of the Netherlands. In March 2015 he also initiated Veenentaal. Visit his LinkedIn page for more work experience information, of open theĀ  CV of Remco van Veenendaal (CV-RvV, in Dutch).

Veenentaal advises on language applications, and develops them too. If possible, Veenentaal uses available open source applications to show what is possible and available. An example is redekundig.nl, an application for parsing Dutch sentences and describing the grammatical functions and categories of the parts.
